David Pencil

David Pencil began studying music at an early age, becoming proficient in piano, percussion, and voice by the end of his high-school education. He began studying composition during his junior year of high-school with Sean and Kyle Pullen, and later with Thomas Osborne, a Rice University graduate. David attended Rice University from 2001-2005, earning his Bachelors degree in Music Composition. In 2004, David also studied film music with Hummie Mann at the Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program.

After graduating with honors, David moved to Cincinnati to attend CCM from 2005-2007, earning his Masters degree in Music Composition under the instruction of Michael Fiday, Joel Hoffman and film music with Thomas Haines. David currently lives with his wife, Heather, in Cincinnati. He teaches private lessons in piano and voice, and is the choir director of the Pleasant Run Presbyterian Church. He has collaborated with numerous artists and students on film and media projects, and continues to seek opportunities to help artists and directors achieve their creative vision.

David began teaching at the Center in the Summer of 2007, and joined the Center's administrative team in October. He is acting registrar of the Center, as well as coordinator for the Midwest Modern Music(MMMS) program. As a faculty member at The Center, he teaches private lessons in piano, voice, and composition, and several of the classes in the MMMS program. If you call the office between the hours of 9-3(M-Th) you'll find him on the other line, ready to help with whatever you need.
